Young-ish engelmann spruce in nice pot from Nicky Ducommun, appears to be ~14-17 years old based on branch whorls and thickness. Likely was a young yamadori. Very straight. Maybe formal upright? Or needs serious styling.

Seasonal Care — Mid Spring

Regular watering needed, but avoid waterlogging.

Start fertilizing with low-nitrogen balanced fertilizer.

Can wire new growth as it starts to elongate; be gentle.
bud shoot management
Allow shoots to extend to 3-5 pairs of needles, then pinch.

Unwire

Really bad scarring. Will need to be trunk chopped.

I noticed that the wire up the trunk was biting in quite a bit so I took it off today. It left some really bad marking as seen in the photos. I am going to let the tree recover as much as possible and my give it a good chop later with a much lower leader.
